MARNA Running HUB

At Marna Physio, we understand the joy running brings to your life. Whether you are striving for a Couch to 5km, looking to set a PB at the local Park Run, or training for your first Surf Coast Century, our goal is to keep you on the trails and out of the clinic.

We have transformed our approach to offer a complete Running Hub—a central base for rehabilitation, biomechanics, and physiological performance on the Surf Coast.

Our Running Services

1. Running Gait Assessments

Pain can arise from how we move. Our experienced Physiotherapists utilise video analysis technology to evaluate your running technique. We look at your entire body’s movement patterns—assessing biomechanics, cadence, and loading strategies—to identify inefficiencies that may be causing injury or slowing you down.

2. Physiological Testing (VO2 Max & Lactate Threshold)

Take the guesswork out of your training. We offer elite-level physiological testing to determine your specific heart rate training zones, VO2 Max, and Lactate Thresholds. This data allows us (and your running coach) to prescribe training intensities with scientific precision. Read more by visiting our VO2 page.

3. Strength & Mobility Programming

Running requires more than just lungs; it requires a robust chassis. We design individualised strength and conditioning programs specifically for runners. These programs focus on increasing tissue tolerance and joint mobility to handle the high-impact demands of running.

4. Clinical Pilates for Runners

A strong core and stable pelvis are the foundation of efficient running. Our runner-specific Clinical Pilates sessions target the specific muscle groups needed for stability and endurance, helping you maintain form even when fatigue sets in.

5. Education & Workshops

We believe in empowering the running community. The team at Marna Physio regularly hosts education talks for local run clubs and groups, covering topics like injury prevention, shoe selection, and load management.

What to Expect During an Assessment

When you visit Marna Physio for a running assessment, we look at the whole picture. We integrate your physical assessment (muscle strength and joint mobility) with your running history and future goals.

Based on our findings, we may suggest:

  • Technique Modifications: Small cues to improve efficiency.

  • Load Management: Advice on volume and intensity

  • Shoe Recommendations: Guidance on the right footwear for your specific mechanics.

  • Holistic Care: Referrals to our network of trusted podiatrists, orthopedic specialists, remedial massage therapists and running coaches if required.

How to Prepare

To ensure a thorough analysis, please bring the following to your appointment:

  • Your Running Shoes: Please bring all pairs you currently rotate, including any orthotics or inserts.

  • Running Attire: Wear close-fitting clothing (singlet/shorts) so we can clearly see your knee and hip mechanics during video analysis.
